SIMATIC WinCC: Authorization key Siemens automation controller Wincc/datamonitor V6.2 Sp3 Upon Web client V6.1 Hf11

Hello,
I have the next problem:
We have installed WebNavigator V6.1 on a station with WinCC V6.0 SP3 HF11.
On this station we have intalled the next licenses:
WinCC RT (128) V6.2
WinCC Datamonitor V6.2
When we want the connect to the PC with an other PC we get the message that the license is expired.
If you can see we use a higher level license for WinCC this is no problem.
My question is, can you also use a higher level license for WinCC/Datamonitor.
Thank you for you help.
Regards,
Pepijn

WinCC V7.5 License with V7.3 Installation

Yes, a WinCC V7.5 license will work with a currently installed WinCC V7.3 system. This allows your client to purchase the V7.5 license now, avoiding upgrade costs if they choose to upgrade in the future.

This behavior is confirmed in the Siemens support thread you referenced: WinCC License Compatibility.

While not explicitly detailed in standard WinCC manuals as a feature, Siemens licensing generally allows for 'forward compatibility' - meaning a newer license can be used on an older version. The linked support thread provides practical confirmation of this for WinCC V7.3 and V7.5.

WinCC License Manager Memory Consumption - WinCC 7.0 SP3 Upd8

The issue of the License Manager (alsmsrv64x.exe) consuming excessive RAM on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise system running WinCC 7.0 SP3 + Upd8 is a known potential problem.

Possible Causes & Resolutions:

  • License Conflict/Corruption: A corrupted or conflicting license can lead to the License Manager looping and consuming memory. Try reloading the license.
  • Large Number of Tags/Clients: A very large WinCC project with numerous tags or a high number of concurrent clients can increase the License Manager's memory footprint.
  • Software Updates: While you're on Update 8, checking for any further available updates or hotfixes via Siemens Support is recommended.
  • Operating System Limitations: Windows Server 2008 R2 is an older OS. Resource constraints could exacerbate the issue.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Restart the License Manager service.
  2. Monitor memory usage using Windows Task Manager to confirm the issue consistently relates to alsmsrv64x.exe.
  3. Review the License Manager log files for errors (typically found in the WinCC installation directory under 'Log').

License Compatibility with WebNavigator

Hello Pepijn,

Yes, you can generally use a higher-level WinCC license (V6.2 in your case) for WebNavigator V6.1 in conjunction with WinCC V6.0 SP3 HF11 and WinCC Datamonitor V6.2.

The license expiration message usually indicates an issue with the license server or the license configuration itself, not necessarily incompatibility. However, ensure your license server recognizes and distributes the V6.2 licenses to the WebNavigator client.

Please verify the following:

  • License Server Status: Ensure the Siemens License Server is running.
  • License Pool: Confirm the V6.2 WinCC RT and Datamonitor licenses are in the correct license pool.
  • WebNavigator Configuration: Double-check that WebNavigator is configured to use the correct license server and pool.

If the issue persists, please open a support request via SiePortal, including your license information for further assistance.
