Hello,
We are currently developing projects with WinCC and S7-400 and after years we have a concept with libraries, tools, face plates, structures, etc.
After discussion with our customer, we would like to extend the HMI possibilities by using the system platform as "navigation" system for other industrial applications like other Windows SW or video camera system. The customer would like to reduce the number of TFT monitors in the main pulpit to 5 and allow to switch monitors from e.g. WinCC to Video camera or to Level 3/MES or to the measuring devices or to several PC systems. The monitor selection could be done automatically e.g by the S7-PLC to follows a mechanical sequence. The customer don't want to use a HW system like KVM extender.
Is it possible to fulfill this kind of concept by using WinCC OA together with WinCC or by migration from WinCC to WinCC OA without to start again from a white paper?
Thanks for your advice
Andre

Dear Andre,
Yes, your concept is feasible, and WinCC OA offers a robust solution for extending your HMI capabilities beyond traditional WinCC functionality, especially concerning integrating external Windows applications and video systems.
WinCC OA & WinCC Coexistence: WinCC OA can indeed work *with* your existing WinCC system. You can leverage your existing WinCC projects for core process visualization while using WinCC OA as a central "navigation" layer to display other applications on your monitors. This avoids a complete rewrite.
Key Capabilities for your Requirement:
Migration vs. Coexistence: A full migration from WinCC to WinCC OA is not *necessary* to achieve your goal. Starting with a coexistence approach allows you to gradually adopt WinCC OA features without abandoning your existing WinCC investment. However, for more complex integrations and future scalability, a phased migration might be considered.

Please let me know if you'd like to discuss specific integration scenarios or a potential roadmap for implementing this solution.
