RFID Data Type Support - Character Data

Yes, it is possible to write and read character data with Siemens RFID systems, although it's not directly supported as a dedicated 'char' data type. You need to handle character data as byte arrays.

Here's how you can achieve this:

  • Encoding: Represent your character data using an encoding like ASCII or UTF-8. Each character will then be represented by one or more bytes.
  • Writing: Write the byte array representation of your character(s) to the RFID tag using the Byte data type functionality.
  • Reading: Read the bytes from the tag.
  • Decoding: Convert the byte array back into character data using the same encoding you used for writing.

Refer to the SiePortal documentation for detailed information on data types and RFID commands. Specifically, review the sections on Byte data handling.

You can find helpful resources and FAQs on Siemens Industry Support Portal (SiePortal).
