SIMODRIVE Converter system: Alert Within Bridgeport Vmc 800 Including Heidenhain Tnc 370 Cnc Management

Hi  friends!
The subject machine displays the following alarm immediately after boot up...
"Z-Measuring system defective A"
The specs of the machine Z-axis are as under:
Z-axis drive: Siemens 6SN1118-0AA11-0AA0.
Z-axis motor: Siemens 1FTS074-0AC71-1-Z.
Z-axis encoder: ROD 350  500 P/R.
Any help regarding the problem will be highly appreciated. Also we need the parameters list with description of TNC 370 control. Is there any way to get the z-axis referenced without encoder? if yes how to proceed?
Waiting for any helpful response.

Z-Axis Measuring System Defective Alarm - TNC 370

Z-Axis Measuring System Defective (Alarm Z) - TNC 370

Dear AmjadK,

The "Z-Measuring system defective A" alarm indicates an issue with the Z-axis encoder or its connection to the TNC 370 control. Here's a breakdown and troubleshooting steps:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  • Check Connections: Verify all cable connections between the ROD 350 encoder and the TNC 370 control are secure and undamaged.
  • Encoder Verification: Test the encoder itself if possible, or replace it with a known good encoder to rule out an encoder failure.
  • Parameter Check: Ensure the encoder parameters (pulses per revolution - 500 P/R in your case) are correctly configured in the TNC 370.
  • TNC 370 Diagnostics: Utilize the TNC 370's diagnostic functions to further pinpoint the issue.

TNC 370 Parameter List:

You can access the TNC 370 parameter list with descriptions through Siemens Industry Online Support. Search for "TNC 370 Parameter Manual".

Referencing Z-Axis Without Encoder:

Referencing the Z-axis without the encoder is not recommended as it compromises accuracy and repeatability. However, in emergency situations, it might be possible using a 3-point referencing procedure with limit switches, but this requires expert knowledge and careful configuration. Consult the TNC 370 documentation or Siemens support before attempting this.

For detailed assistance, including parameter settings and advanced troubleshooting, please open a support request through the Siemens Support Portal, referencing your machine details and alarm message.

Sincerely,
Siemens Self Support
