Simotion Scout V4.1.5.6 Topology View Crash

It appears you're experiencing a consistent crash in Simotion Scout V4.1.5.6 when accessing the topology view, even offline, and after a clean reinstall. The fact that the project works on another PC strongly suggests a local environment issue on your Windows XP SP3 machine.

You've already taken good troubleshooting steps (reinstall, clearing persi.dat files, and referencing the forum topic with Kristoffel's suggestions). Since these haven't resolved the issue, here are further steps to consider:

  • Graphics Driver: An outdated or corrupted graphics driver is a frequent cause of Scout crashes, especially with graphical views like topology. Update to the latest driver available from your graphics card manufacturer (Nvidia, AMD/ATI, Intel). Consider a clean driver installation (completely remove the old driver first).
  • Windows Updates: Ensure Windows XP SP3 is fully up-to-date with all critical updates and security patches.
  • .NET Framework: Simotion Scout relies on the .NET Framework. Verify you have the correct version installed (likely .NET Framework 3.5 SP1) and that it's functioning correctly. Try repairing the .NET Framework installation.
  • Antivirus/Firewall: Temporarily disable your antivirus and firewall to see if they are interfering with Scout's operation. If this resolves the issue, you'll need to configure exceptions for Scout.
  • User Profile: A corrupted Windows user profile could be contributing to the problem. Create a new Windows user account and try running Scout from within that new profile.
  • Check System Logs: Examine the Windows Event Viewer (Application and System logs) for any errors or warnings that coincide with the Scout crashes. This might provide clues about the underlying cause.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, please open a support request through Siemens Support providing details of the steps you've already taken and the results. Include the Windows Event Viewer logs.
