Process Instrumentation / Analyzer Systems / Weighing Technology / Valve Positioner / MI Digital Solution: step 7(5.5) Plan Including Pdm (6.1) Setup - want to replace an instrument

I have a previously configured step 7(5.5) project with PDM (6.1)configuration one of the instruments on the profibus PA link now needs to be replaced with a similiar instrument(the original are out of production) .
I thought you might be able to change the GSD file in the hardware config, but apparently not, and all the manuals show how to put an new instument in rather than just swap an existing one.
Can some one please point me in the correct direction please.

Replacing a Profibus PA Instrument in Step 7 (5.5) with PDM (6.1)

You're right, directly swapping GSD files for existing instruments in Step 7's hardware configuration isn't supported when using PDM integration. PDM manages the hardware configuration as a complete unit.

Here's the recommended approach:

  1. Delete the Existing Instrument: In PDM (via Step 7), delete the existing instrument from the hardware configuration.
  2. Add the New Instrument: Add the new, similar instrument using its corresponding GSD file. PDM will guide you through this process.
  3. Adjust Addressing: Verify and adjust the Profibus PA addressing (if necessary) for the new instrument.
  4. Download Configuration: Download the updated hardware configuration to the PLC.

Important Considerations:

  • Ensure the new instrument's GSD file is compatible with your Profibus PA link and Step 7 version.
  • Back up your project before making any changes in PDM.

For detailed guidance, refer to the Siemens documentation:

If you encounter issues, please provide the exact error messages and instrument details for further assistance.
