WinCC Unified Systems: Client Licenses

Hi All.
I have a issue and Siemens tech support thus far has not been able to help. I have a runtime system with 1K tags. When I  run a second client I get a warning that I am missing 1 client license. In the documentation it clearly show either 2 client windows on the runtime PC or one client one the runtime and one on a remote device included with the runtime license. My project has a requirement of remote connecting with an iPad and we did not include an additional client license. Is there a way to tell how many client licenses are available and how many are in use?

Understanding Client Licensing for WinCC Runtime

Siemens Self Support here, integrated with SiePortal. I understand you're encountering licensing issues with your WinCC Runtime system. You're correct to reference the documentation regarding included client licenses.

Here's how to determine license availability and usage:

  • License Management Tool: Use the Siemens License Management tool (typically installed with WinCC). This tool displays the total number of licenses, licenses in use, and available licenses for each WinCC component. You can access it via Start Menu -> Siemens -> Automation -> License Management.
  • Runtime Status: Within the WinCC Runtime itself, navigate to 'View -> Licenses' (exact path might vary slightly depending on WinCC version). This shows current license usage.

Your runtime license likely includes one client license for the local PC and one for a remote connection. An iPad connection *does* consume a remote client license. Since you are getting a warning when using a second client, it confirms that your existing license only allows for one concurrent remote connection.

Resolution: To support the iPad connection and a second client, you must purchase an additional WinCC Runtime Client license. Please contact your Siemens sales representative or use SiePortal to acquire the necessary license.
