SIMATIC S7-200: Continuous Signal Entry & serial Information

Dear all
can i know it is possible to connect sensors with frequency output to the analog input of Siemens PLC<<
another thing, we have sensors with S3L( digital serial) it can be connected to Siemens PLC??
or we should select the analog sensors with output 4-20 MA to be compatible with the specifications of analog input module of S7-200.
Please advice

Connecting Sensors to Siemens PLCs (S7-200)

Yes, it is possible to connect sensors with frequency output to the analog input of a Siemens PLC, but requires specific configuration. The PLC needs to be set up to count frequency as an analog value. Refer to the S7-200 documentation for frequency measurement instructions.

Regarding S3L (digital serial) sensors: Direct connection to an S7-200 is generally not supported without an interface module (e.g., serial communication module). You would need a protocol converter to translate S3L to a protocol the S7-200 understands (like Modbus).

For straightforward compatibility with the S7-200's analog input modules, 4-20mA analog sensors are the recommended choice. They directly interface with the input range of most standard modules.

Recommendation: Using 4-20mA sensors simplifies wiring and configuration for the S7-200. If you must use frequency sensors or S3L sensors, factor in the cost and complexity of necessary interface hardware and software.
