SINAMICS G: What does I/min mean Upon display

Sorry for the very basic question. I don't work with Siemens drives very often and I am having trouble finding the documentation I need to answer this question.
Client of mine has a Siemens G Drive. Both 30 and 40 Hp models. 2 years ago, a Siemens tech came and setup the drives. The drives receive their speed setpoint from a DCS system via Ethernet/IP.
Customer is questioning what the speed output of the VFD is to the motor. I can tell the customer that the DCS is commanding at 100% speed setpoint. Customer sees 1782.0 I/min on the VFD HIM (display). The physical motor has a nominal RPM of 1750.
What does 1782.0 I/MIN represent? Is that 1782.0 RPM?

Understanding G Drive Speed Output

You're right to question the 1782.0 I/min reading on the G drive's Human Interface Module (HIM). It's not directly motor RPM, even though it's close to your motor's nominal speed.

1782.0 I/min represents the drive's calculated motor speed after accounting for the motor's slip and any programmed speed increase (frequency boost). The drive calculates this based on the frequency it's outputting to the motor.

Here's a breakdown:

  • DCS 100% Command: The DCS is requesting the drive operate at its maximum programmed speed.
  • Nominal Motor Speed: Your motor is rated for 1750 RPM.
  • 1782.0 I/min: This indicates the drive is outputting a frequency resulting in a calculated speed of 1782 RPM, considering slip compensation and possible frequency boosting parameters configured during the initial setup by the Siemens technician.

To confirm the exact configuration:

  1. Access the drive's parameters via STARTER or DriveMonitor.
  2. Check parameters related to frequency boosting (P0700-P0703) and slip compensation (P1082).
  3. Review the motor data programmed in the drive (P0600-P0610) to ensure it accurately reflects the motor nameplate.

For detailed documentation, please refer to the G120C drive manual on SiePortal:

G120C User Manual

You can assure your client that the drive is responding correctly to the 100% command and is operating within expected parameters, accounting for motor characteristics and programmed settings.
