Find and replace have three options:
- whole document
- from current position (default)
- selection
but it's not selectable. Why is that so?

You've correctly identified that the Find & Replace dialog in STEP 7 v12 Update 3 offers three scope options: Whole Document, From Current Position (default), and Selection. However, the "Selection" option is currently not functional in this version.
This is a known limitation within STEP 7 v12 Update 3. The selection-based find and replace functionality was implemented in later versions of TIA Portal (specifically, from V13 onwards).
Workaround: To achieve a similar result, you need to manually select the desired text block before initiating the Find & Replace, which will then apply the changes from the current cursor position within that selection.
