STEP 7 / STEP 7 Lite: Cross Reference addressing Issue

Dear All,

In the Cross Reference (Step7) some variables’ addresses are not assigned their accrual symbols. For example, I have DB1.DBX1.1 “Variable1”. But the CR displays ”Variable2” at this address instead. The other S7 projects are displayed fine. How can I fix it?

Thanks in advance and Best Reagrds!

Cross Reference Display Issue in STEP 7

Dear User,

The issue of incorrect variable names appearing in the Cross Reference (CR) table, while other projects display correctly, usually points to a database inconsistency within the specific project file. Here's how to address this:

  1. Rebuild Symbol Database: In STEP 7, go to Options > General > Rebuild symbol database. This often resolves inconsistencies.
  2. Check for Duplicate Symbols: Ensure no other variables are accidentally assigned the same address (DB1.DBX1.1). Use the symbol table to verify.
  3. Project Consistency Check: Run a project consistency check (Tools > Consistency Check) to identify and fix any errors.
  4. Hardware Configuration Check: Verify the hardware configuration is correct and consistent with the symbol table.
  5. Backup & Recreate: As a last resort, back up your project and try recreating the problematic variable.
