I am currently trying to get connected to a Sinamics DCM via Ethernet/IP and control it by Schneider M580 PLC. I already did some tests and it seems to work fine, but I am not sure about possible topologies and wether this is really a good idea or not.
I found a document regarding EIP which recommended using a ring topology in real-time applications but I am not sure I can use ring topology with DCM. In
DCM Operating Instructions
there is a hint on page 473 to not connect DCMs in a ring, but for Profinet with Media redundancy it is allowed (page 475).
Should I go for a ring or buy some switches and use star topology in this case (goal is connecting around 40 DCM)?
Another option would be using Modbus TCP or an EIP/PN gateway but this could be even worse I guess?
